Why was the otp (one time password) not delivered?

When an OTP (One-Time Password) is not delivered, it can occur for several reasons related to network, device, or service provider issues.

Here are some common causes and how to address them:

  1. Network Issues: The recipient’s mobile network might be experiencing temporary delays or connectivity issues, causing the OTP delivery to be slow. In such cases, we recommend that the recipient first check their network signal strength. After ensuring a stable connection, they should wait a few minutes before attempting to request the OTP again.
  2. Incorrect Phone Number: The One-Time Password might have been sent to the wrong phone number due to an input error by the recipient. Ensure the correct phone number is registered in the system.
  3. Do Not Disturb (DND) Service: The recipient might have activated the “Do Not Disturb” service, which can block certain messages, including OTPs. As a result, the OTP may fail to deliver successfully. Therefore, we strongly encourage the recipient to deactivate the DND service by following their network provider’s guidelines. This step increases the chances of receiving OTP messages promptly.
  4. Blocked or Blacklisted Numbers: The recipient’s number may be blocked or blacklisted by the OTP service provider. 
  5. Service Provider Issues: Sometimes, there might be issues with the OTP service provider. 

Alternative solution for nigerian lenders and their users for receiving One-Time Password:

If the code is not delivered through the usual SMS method, recipients can now retrieve their OTP via a USSD code:

  • The USSD code is displayed at least a minute into the countdown, providing an alternative way to receive the code.
    • Onboarding: Dial *7006*23*1*99#.
    • Phone number verification: Dial *7006*23*{{ID}}*99#. (The {{ID}} is automatically generated by the system, so please wait for the code to be displayed on your screen.)

  • On the lender’s web app: Users can view the USSD code once the countdown finishes. At that point, they can dial the code to receive their OTP directly.
    • To retrieve OTP: Dial *7006*23*{{ID}}*99#. (The {{ID}} is automatically generated by the system, so please wait for the code to be displayed on your screen.)
